Notarial Services and Appointments

 

The Embassy is open from 8:00am to 4:00pm, Sunday to Thursday, except for public holidays.

The Australian Embassy in Kuwait works on an appointment basis for notarial services. Refer below for further information. Please note the Embassy only takes appointments between 9.00 am and 12.00 pm.

In order to be granted access to the Embassy you will need to bring a valid government issued identification (that is a passport or Kuwaiti civil ID). There are no exceptions to this policy.

Notarial Services

The Australian Embassy in Kuwait can provide notarial services by appointment only.

We provide the following notarial services:

  • Witnessing of Signatures (Please contact the Embassy for specific requirements relating to witnessing of signatures, as the requirements may vary depending on the form you wish us to witness.)
  • Certifying a copy of a document
  • Certificates of Non-Impediment to Marriage
  • Legalisation of signatures and/or seals on Australian public documents (apostilles and authentications)
  • Legalisation of signatures and/or seals on some Kuwaiti documents that are attested by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs (authentications only).   • Issuing To Whom It May Concern letters to certify Australian passports.

With regards to educational documents, please note the following:

  • Legalising originals of non-Australian educational documents: The Australian Embassy cannot attest original non-Australian educational documents. Please contact the Embassy of the issuing country. We are only able to make certified copies of these documents.

     

  • Legalising Australian educational documents: You are required to attest your original Australian educational documents by an Australian notary public, or the central registration office of your university, or by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Australia, before the Australian Embassy Kuwait can attest your document.


    Please note that if you intend to use these documents in Kuwait, you will have to specifically attest them with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Australia. This is because the Kuwaiti government will not accept educational documents unless they are attested by the department/ministry of foreign affairs of the issuing country.

Letters to Obtain Police Clearance Certificates for Immigration Purposes

With regards to request letters to obtain police clearances from Kuwait and other countries for the purpose of immigration to Australia, please note the Embassy is no longer able to issue these letters

With regards to request letters to obtain police clearances from Kuwait and other countries for the purpose of immigration to Australia, please note the Embassy is no longer able to issue these letters effective 9 May 2019. Clients who require a police clearance certificate from Kuwait for immigration purposes can download the letter linked below and present it to the Kuwaiti authorities. Clients can also contact their Embassy of nationality or employer/sponsor to obtain these letters.

Note regarding foreign documents

The Australian Embassy Kuwait cannot authenticate originals of foreign documents. The only foreign documents we can authenticate are Kuwaiti documents that have been authenticated by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs (except educational documents as explained above). We are also unable to authenticate original commercial documents unless they have been authenticated by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Australia.

Letters Certifying Australian Drivers' Licences for the Purpose of Obtaining a Kuwaiti Driver's Licence

The Australian Embassy Kuwait cannot issue letters to certify Australian driver’s licences. If you wish to obtain a Kuwaiti driver's licence through direct exchange of your Australian one, please contact the issuing State authority of your licence in Australia. We cannot confirm if State authorities issue such letters. However, if you are able to obtain a letter from the State authority certifying the correctness of the details on your driver's licence, you will be required to authenticate the letter by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Australia and the Kuwaiti Embassy in Canberra before it can be accepted by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Embassy cannot guarantee that this procedure would ensure that you obtain a Kuwaiti driver's licence. We encourage all clients to consult with Kuwaiti authorities first.

Authentication of Australian Documents for use in Kuwait

If you have Australian documents for use in Kuwait, please note that you are not required to authenticate them by the Kuwaiti Embassy in Canberra (with the exception of Australian National Police Certificates). The authentications of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Australia and the Australian Embassy Kuwait are sufficient for the documents to be accepted by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

We encourage all clients to confirm the specific requirements for their documents with the Kuwait authorities before making an appointment for notarial services at the Australian Embassy.

Authentication of Australian National Police Certificates for use in Kuwait

If you are required to present an Australian National Police Certificate for use in Kuwait (for employment purposes, etc), please note that you are required to authenticate the certifcate by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Australia, the Kuwaiti Embassy in Canberra and the Australian Embassy Kuwait before the certificate can be accepted by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Translations and Translation Offices

If you wish to have your original translation authenticated, you will need to have it authenticated first by both the Kuwaiti Ministry of Justice and the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs before the Embassy can accept them. Please note the list of Embassy approved translation offices in Kuwait is for Australian passport applications only and does not apply to notarial services.

If you wish to make a certified copy of your translation, no prior authentication is required.

Important Note: The Embassy is unable to attest/certify copies of the Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials (EPIC) identification form for the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). Please contact the Australian Medical Council (AMC) for other alternatives.

 

Notarial Fees

Notarial fees are subject to an annual increase (on 1 January) in line with the Consumer Price Index. Other than notarial service fees, DFAT does not charge for consular assistance provided to Australians.

Fees are payable by debit and credit cards only in Kuwaiti dinar at the nominated exchange rate (which is subject to variations).
